CROWD REVOLTS
Boston, Mass., Sept.18.―This mornin a surprise came off when the Puritan authoriesa
Massachusets Bay tried to sell into slavery two Quaker kids, a brother an sister, Daniel Soutwhick an Provided Southwick. Since Massachusetts decided to exile the Quakers, th'old Soutwicks were sent out, an went to Providence; now the kids been arrested for their pew rent in the Puritan church in Salem, an the General Court ordered em sold as slaves to Virginia or Barbadoes.
But twas sompin else again to carry it out. The two kids were took down to Boston, an this mornin they got brung
downtath waterfront to auction em off to the ship captains. But it dident work nohow. The captains refused very loudly to have anythin to do with it―their Puritan conscience told em twas all wrong. An the crowd went with em, an nothin more could get did. The kids haddaby let go, and no orders from Governor Endicott nor
nobody else could stop it.

THE TOLERANCE ISSUE
Thes now been a new sorta revolt in Massachusetts―a quiet one, but a revolt justasame. The people's been tellin th'authorities where to get off at. An it's a new issue for a Massachusetts crowd tabee takin up. The businessa sellin Quaker kids was too much for em, an they wouldent stand for it; an so now theyre fightin for religious tolerance, an this once they got their point, even though the question aint settled yet by a long shot.
The Penacook nations have been havin a tough time tryinta teach our white invaders this idea, but it seems tabee
penetratin at last. Weve already founded a refuge on Narrangansest Bay, an it seems tabee growin mighty quick; but now th'idea's spreadin. Still, it's hard tateach anybody what comes over from across th'ocean, where they say the place is fulla different people ready
tashoot each other down all the time because they think different, or for any reason or no reason at all.
Still, if th'idea's catchin on, good luck! The Puritans got good fightin spirit, if they could only get started fightin for everybody's rights
steada fightin each other cause one dont like what the other's said. An they seem to be havin a good start now, with this Southwick affair.
